Theosophy
More
flexible than a set of rules

You can define
a Fundamentalist as someone who applies a set of rules to a situation
irrespective of the circumstances. (we’ve all met them and they’re not always
religious)
Everything is
negotiable in Theosophy and the closest thing to a set of rules we have is our
objects with which we expect all our members to agree.
If you are new
to Theosophy, here they are;
The Objects of
the Theosophical Society
1. To form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity, without
distinction of race, creed, gender, caste or colour.
2.
To encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science.
3.
To investigate unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in man.
So if we all
agree on these, we can negotiate.
You will find a
fantastic number of ideas in Theosophy, some of them are grasped easily and
some may take years to fully appreciate. These ideas are not set in stone but
are simply presented as ideas for consideration.
This approach
gives Theosophists space to breath. There is no fear of breaking away from
party lines, being condemned by management or of invoking the disapproval of a
higher being, on the grounds of your interpretation of the Theosophical
Teachings.
What about
personal and lifestyle decisions. Well as far as the Theosophical Society is
concerned, these remain personal and lifestyle decisions. Although individual
members of the Society are free to advocate or promote their ideas in relation
to such matters as family arrangements, vegetarianism, alcohol or medicine,
none of this has ever been binding on other members. So detector vans are not
